At The Queen's For Tea

from Homeless Songs by Ross Mayhew

/

lyrics

i once went to the queens for tea
i had some cakes they were lovely
all around, all that i saw
smacked of total inequality

servants for her every need
a palace live in rent free
priceless art in every room
with all the money from me and you

a prince and a princess might sound nice
but it all comes at a price
flag to wave and holiday
won't make me forgot those who pay

so count your pennies 1, 2, 3
send some to her majesty
as she sits on a throne
doing little but growing old

so when i came back from the queens
i had become a revolutionary
from now i'll act for equality
an extra penny for you and me

nobody needs a house that big
surely plenty need a place to live
can't she open a door or two
to the many who need a roof

but i'm glad i went for tea at the queens
it opened my mind to inequality
although the world that i see
still seems blinded by her royalty
